FAQ’s
What does a Soul Shop T4T cost?
The fee for the training is $2500
What do I need to do to start to become a trainer?
Fill out an application. The application is located on one of the blue buttons on this page.
Where will the Soul Shop training take place?
Please see above
Does an attendee have to have attended a Soul Shop to attend the T4T?
While it would be helpful if attendees have been to a Soul Shop training, it is not required of attendees.
Do Soul Shop trainers have to be pastors?
Definitely not. Soul Shop trainers will need to show that they have some experience with and competence in suicide prevention and matters of Christian faith.
It is not necessary to have certain degrees and/or credentials to become a Soul Shop trainer.
Do I have to be a suicide prevention expert?
No. The Soul Shop Team provides intervention training and information about suicide during this 4 - 5 day training.
This workshop will equip you with information to present a deeper understanding of suicide and best practices.
You will have to attend an ASIST ( Applied Suicide Interventions Skills Training) before becoming a registered trainer.
What to wear?
Attire is business casual. There will be no occasion where formal clothes will be required, and comfort should be your number one consideration
What do I get for my registration fee?
Five days of training will provide you with certification to teach the following Soul Shop workshops:
Soul Shop for Leaders
Soul Shop for Black Churches (only for those who attend Soul Shop for Black Churches T4T)
Soul Shop for Youth
Soul Shop for Youth Leaders
Soul Shop for Campus Leaders
Soul Shop for College Students
Soul Shop for Congregations
Soul Shop for Communities
We will provide training materials, lunch daily, snacks and drinks throughout the day and one evening meal.
Once I’m certified, will I have to do anything to maintain my certification?
Yes. In order to maintain your certification, you will be required to do three Soul Shop trainings (with a minimum of 10 attendees) in the first year and two Soul Shop trainings in every subsequent year to maintain your certification.
If you fail to meet those minimum requirements, we will be willing to create a reactivation plan for you within the next 12 months that will be dependent on your personal situation and the number of trainings you have done.
If your training lapses by more than 12 months, you will lose your certification and will need to attend another T4T to become a Soul Shop trainer.
What other expenses will I have on top of the registration fees?
Trainees will be responsible for all transportation costs, including airfare (if necessary), hotel accommodations, and most evening meals.
Do I need to make my own hotel reservations?
Yes. We will have a list of hotels in the area where you can stay.
What if I can’t be there for the whole time?
Every trainee must be able to stay for the ENTIRE training. We will begin at 6:00 pm on Day 1 (usually a Sunday or Monday) and conclude 1:00 pm on Day 4 (a Thursday or Friday) .
If you can’t make it for the entire training, please look for future trainings that are more suitable for your schedule.
If I have enough people in my community to host my own T4T, is that an option?
Because Soul Shop trainers need to have certain skills and experiences, not everyone is eligible to be come a Soul Shop trainer.
But if you have enough Soul Shop approved candidates in your area, we would be willing to discuss bringing a T4T to your community.
Please contact Michelle Snyder at Michelle@soulshopmovement.org for more information.
If I become a Soul Shop trainer, does that mean I will be sent all Soul Shop events in my geographic area by the Soul Shop team?
Becoming a Soul Shop trainer provides you the wonderful opportunity to cultivate and host this important workshop to your constituency. We offer a wide variety of materials to help you with this process.
Please note that, once approved, we will do our best to ensure that any Soul Shop workshop that has been cultivated or personally contracted by you is yours to teach. While the Soul Shop team works diligently to field out inquiries to our trainers that come to us via our Soul Shop home offices, please note that this is not always possible. Moreover, Soul Shop does not ensure that additional trainers will not be trained in your geographical area. We are unable to offer area protections to trainers in this way.
Will I be allowed to charge for providing Soul Shop trainings?
Yes. While the arrangements that you make with any organization for a Soul Shop™ workshop will be yours to negotiate, it is our assumption that you will be compensated for your time while you are training. Our recommendation is that you be compensated at $1000 per training. That makes it possible for you to recoup your registration fee within two to three trainings.
Once I am trained, will I become a Soul Shop staff member?
No, you will not be considered “Soul Shop staff” after you attend the training-for-trainers. You will be considered an independent trainer which will allow you to cultivate and host your own Soul Shop trainings. We are proud to list all Soul Shop events on our Soul Shop website.
