Denisse Lamas
Director of Hispanic Churches | Trainer
Denisse Lamas is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Florida, born and raised in Puerto Rico. For the past several years, she has been an active advocate in suicide prevention, serving as the President of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) – Central Florida Chapter from 2014 until early 2019. Currently, she is a member of the National Board and chairs the Leadership Council's Diversity Workgroup. Denisse is also the founder of the AFSP Puerto Rico Chapter.
In February 2023, she became certified as a #SoulShop™ Trainer, leading interactive workshops that equip faith community leaders to minister to those affected by suicidal despair. Additionally, Denisse is a former adjunct professor at the University of Central Florida and is registered to supervise Clinical Social Work Interns, regularly mentoring employees as they work toward licensure.
Denisse is involved in various professional associations and has received several awards and recognitions throughout her career. In 2012, she realized her dream by founding Hispanic Family Counseling Inc., where she currently serves as CEO. Denisse is also pursuing her Doctorate in Social Work at Walden University.
On a personal note, she enjoys traveling and spending quality time with her husband, family, and friends. Since 1996, Denisse has been a founder and active member of Iglesia Cristiana Hispana (Discípulos de Cristo) – North Orlando.
